Origins
The Viking Sport of 1966 was Peel Engineering's attempt at a 'real' car: a small glassfibre coupé accepting Mini mechanicals, designed and moulded on the Isle of Man for kit or factory completion — the company's fibreglass expertise, honed on boat hulls and the microcars, applied at conventional scale. Production remained minute before Peel's car adventure ended, making the Viking rarer than even the P50, though without the microcars' iconography. Its interest is industrial: the Viking shows the little firm's genuine ambition to graduate from novelty toward the sports-kit market that sustained mainland rivals. History chose otherwise, preserving Peel in memory as the marque of the impossibly small — with the Viking as proof it briefly imagined being ordinary.
