Origins
Frank Rinderknecht's Rinspeed built its name on Geneva-show provocations, and the Yello Talbo of 1996 was among the loveliest: a modern reinterpretation of the Talbot-Lago T150 'Goutte d'Eau' — the teardrop coupé regarded as coachbuilding's absolute summit — executed in composite over contemporary American V8 mechanicals, named with a nod to Swiss electronic band Yello. Small-series production was offered to collectors wanting thirties beauty with nineties usability. The Talbo typified Rinspeed's early identity — retro glamour before the industry's nostalgia wave — preceding the studio's later swerve into diving cars and autonomous pods. As Swiss automotive statements go, it remains the most romantic: a watchmaker nation's tribute to France's most beautiful machine.
