Brand History
The Donkervoort Story
Joop Donkervoort founded his company in the Netherlands in 1978, building lightweight sports cars inspired by the Lotus Seven. Donkervoort evolved the formula far beyond its origins, and since the 1990s its D8 models have used Audi engines, most famously the turbocharged five-cylinder in the extreme D8 GTO. The cars emphasize minimal weight, no driver aids, and outsized performance.
