Brand History
The Harley-Davidson Story
Started in a Milwaukee shed in 1903, Harley-Davidson survived the Depression, two world wars and the Japanese invasion of the 1970s — its 1981 management buyout and 1980s revival is a business-school classic. The V-twin cruiser, the bar-and-shield badge and the open road became inseparable ideas in American culture.
Logo History
Evolution Of The Harley-Davidson Logo
1910–present
The bar-and-shield logo, trademarked in 1910, has carried the brand for over a century with only periodic refinement — including the 'Number One' racing badge of the 1970s.
