Origins

Willie G. Davidson's design for 1990 did one thing that made the whole motorcycle: solid disc wheels front and rear. Spoked wheels had been the default for so long that a Harley with unbroken discs looked heavy, deliberate and slightly menacing, and the shape has been recognisable at a distance ever since. It sat on the Softail chassis, which hides its rear suspension beneath the gearbox so the bike reads as a rigid-framed machine from the 1940s while riding like a modern one.
