Brand History
The Hillman Story
Hillman was founded in 1907 in Coventry by William Hillman, a bicycle industrialist who moved into car manufacturing. The marque became a mainstay of the British middle market, particularly with the long-running Minx family, and from the early 1930s was the core volume brand of the Rootes Group. After Chrysler took control of Rootes in the 1960s, Hillman produced models such as the Hunter, Imp and Avenger before the badge was retired in the late 1970s in favour of the Chrysler name.
