Brand History
The Isuzu Story
Isuzu traces its roots to a 1916 collaboration between Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Tokyo Gas and Electric to build automobiles, making it one of Japan's oldest vehicle makers. The Isuzu name, taken from the Isuzu River, was adopted in the 1930s, and the company became a pioneer of Japanese diesel engine development. Over time it withdrew from passenger cars to concentrate on commercial vehicles, becoming one of the world's leading producers of trucks and diesel engines, alongside popular pickups such as the D-Max.
