Brand History
The Lotus Story
Lotus was founded in 1948 by engineer Colin Chapman, whose philosophy of light weight and efficient design shaped both its road cars and its Formula 1 team, which won multiple world championships in the 1960s and 1970s. Road cars such as the Seven, Elan, Esprit, and Elise earned the brand a reputation for exceptional handling. After decades of financial instability under various owners, Chinese automaker Geely acquired a majority stake in 2017 and funded an expansion into electric vehicles.
