Brand History
The Plymouth Story
Plymouth was launched by Chrysler in 1928 as its entry-level brand, competing directly with Ford and Chevrolet, and its sailing-ship badge referenced the Mayflower's landing at Plymouth Rock. It became one of America's best-selling brands and in the muscle car era produced icons like the Barracuda, Road Runner and Superbird. Its identity eroded in later decades as models overlapped with Dodge.
