Brand History

The Saturn Story

Saturn was launched by General Motors in 1985 as "a different kind of car company," an experiment in Japanese-style manufacturing and customer relations built around a new plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Its early compacts featured dent-resistant polymer body panels and no-haggle pricing, winning unusual customer loyalty in the 1990s. GM's underinvestment left the lineup dated, and later rebadged models failed to revive the brand's distinct identity.
