Origins

The Avenger began life as the Kawasaki Eliminator built under the partnership between Bajaj and Kawasaki, and was renamed when Bajaj took the model on as its own in 2005. The cruiser format carried over unchanged: a long low seat, forward-set footpegs, wide handlebars and a raked front end.

Design and engineering

The engine came from within Bajaj's own range, the 219.89 cc oil-cooled twin-spark DTS-i single also used in the Pulsar, with a 150 cc air-cooled option beneath it, and a five-speed gearbox. Performance was never the argument; posture and price were.

In production

The range later split into Street and Cruise variants, the first blacked out for urban riding and the second fitted with a screen and a backrest for longer distances. It has faced no serious domestic rival at its price, which is why it has stayed in production for two decades in a market that changes models constantly.
