Origins

Giotto Bizzarrini parted from Iso in 1964 and kept building his obsession under his own name: the 5300 GT Strada was the Grifo's competition-bred sibling taken further — the Corvette V8 set so far back it lived behind the front axle, under a riveted aluminium body barely a metre tall. It was as close to a road-legal racing car as the era offered; the competition versions won their class at Le Mans in 1965, validating everything. Livorno's little workshop built perhaps 130 cars through 1968, each slightly different, all uncompromising — luggage, silence and visibility were other people's concerns. Bizzarrini's company failed as such ventures do, but the Strada secured his personal legend: the man who engineered the 250 GTO proved the magic travelled with him.
