Origins
The Saibao III of 2005 was Hafei's most ambitious car: a mid-size saloon styled by Pininfarina, engineered with international consultancy, and aimed at the family-sedan mainstream dominated by joint-venture badges. The aviation group's manufacturing seriousness showed; brand pull did not — buyers at that price wanted established names, and the Saibao sold modestly despite honest content. Export attempts reached scattered markets. The car's fate previewed the sector's consolidation logic: styling could be commissioned and quality approached, but distribution and badge equity took decades the independents didn't have. Changan absorbed Hafei in 2009; the Saibao III stands as the marque's high-water mark, elegantly drawn and commercially becalmed. The lesson cost Hafei its independence and taught its acquirers everything.
