The Z of 2022 doubled HiPhi's aesthetic wager: a four-door electric GT of cyberpunk angularity — a robotic arm animating the cabin display, light-bar communication skins, styling that made rivals' futurism look procedural — engineered to genuine performance standards beneath the costume. It reinforced the brand's global-design-press darling status and its domestic niche among buyers wanting maximum statement per yuan. The Z's boldness aged into poignancy: within two years Human Horizons' funding collapsed, operations suspending amid the sector's consolidation. The car remains the era's purest artefact of Chinese EV maximalism — proof the country's designers could out-imagine anyone, and that imagination alone balanced no books. Design students will study it long after the balance sheets are forgotten.
