Origins
HiPhi's X of 2020 was launch-as-spectacle: a large electric SUV with no B-pillars, rear doors opening in concert with roof panels, programmable projector headlamps that could display messages — Human Horizons' bid to make Chinese EVs the industry's imagination leaders rather than value alternatives. Beneath the theatre sat genuine engineering and a six-figure price that briefly topped domestic EV charts. The X gathered a devoted design-forward clientele and international attention disproportionate to volume. As founding statement it defined HiPhi's identity — the market's futurist wing — a position that won admiration consistently and, as the company's later crisis proved, cash flow insufficiently. Imagination as positioning was gloriously right and commercially premature — the sector's recurring epitaph.
