Origins

By 2022 Jetour had established itself selling roomy, inexpensive family crossovers, and the Dashing was the attempt to sell style instead. A compact SUV with a coupé-influenced roofline and a heavily digital interior, it targeted younger urban buyers rather than the multi-generation families the X70 had been built for.

Design and engineering

Mechanically it is conventional for its class: transverse turbocharged 1.5 and 1.6-litre fours driving the front wheels through dual-clutch gearboxes, with a plug-in hybrid added later using a dedicated hybrid transmission. Assembly has spread well beyond China — Indonesia, Malaysia and Russia among them — which reflects how quickly Chinese manufacturers moved to local assembly in export markets during the 2020s. Its export career, from Central Asia to Latin America, made it one of Chery's quieter global successes.
