Origins

Chery created Jetour in 2018 to sell family and leisure vehicles below its own brand's price points, and the X70 was the first car it put on sale. A mid-size front-drive crossover with five or seven seats and turbocharged four-cylinder engines shared with Chery, it undercut established Chinese rivals on price per seat, which in a market of growing families was the argument that counted.

Design and engineering

It sold in large numbers almost immediately and gave Jetour a viable business within a year. Longer X70L and Plus derivatives followed, and the X70 has been exported and assembled across the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America, where it competes chiefly on equipment for the money.
