Origins
The VS7 of 2020 extended the young Jetta marque upward: a larger crossover on the same proven Volkswagen-derived underpinnings, offering family-size space with the brand's austerity formula — robust engineering, simplified equipment, pricing aimed squarely at ambitious domestic competitors. With the VS5 and the VA3 saloon it completed a compact range sold through standalone dealerships styled more like consumer-electronics stores than VW showrooms, courting first-time buyers in China's inland provinces. Steady six-figure annual brand sales followed, vindicating the experiment through the market's brutal price wars. The VS7's role is workhorse and evidence: proof that the value-brand strategy could hold territory Volkswagen's own badge had been surrendering. It remains the range's quiet centre — the car the strategy was actually built to sell.
