Aion V

01

Origins

The Aion V sits below the LX in GAC's electric range: a compact five-door crossover on a front-motor, front-wheel-drive layout, in production in China since 2020.

02

Design and engineering

It was designed around the questions that actually decide electric sales in that market - interior space on a modest footprint, charging speed, driver assistance and connected cabin software - rather than around performance. Later versions have been notable mainly for their battery chemistry and fast-charging claims, an area where GAC has pushed hard.

In production

Exports have taken it to several markets in Southeast Asia and beyond, where it competes on price with established compact SUVs. It is an ordinary car in the best sense: unremarkable to look at, cheap to run, and made in large numbers.
