Origins

Announced in March 2020, the Gemera was Koenigsegg's first four-seater and its first car aimed at being used rather than saved. The name comes from Swedish words meaning to give more. Two enormous dihedral doors open to expose the whole side of the cabin, giving access to all four seats without B-pillars, and each of the four passengers gets a heated and cooled cupholder, which is a fair summary of the car's intent.

Design and engineering

The prototype's powertrain was the most talked-about part. It used the Tiny Friendly Giant, a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged three-cylinder engine with Freevalve camless valve actuation, the technology Koenigsegg's sister company had been developing for years, combined with three electric motors driving all four wheels. It was an argument that a small, unconventional engine could do hypercar work if the hybrid system was designed properly.

In production

The production car, built at Angelholm from 2026, is offered with the 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 instead, driving through the nine-speed Light Speed Turbo Transmission developed from the Jesko's gearbox. The three-cylinder remains part of the story, but the V8 is what customers take delivery of.
