01

Origins

If the ET7 was NIO's answer to the German executive saloons, this was its answer to the car actually selling in numbers. A compact four-door with dual-motor all-wheel drive, on sale from September 2022 and built at Hefei, it undercut the flagship substantially while keeping battery swapping and the battery-leasing scheme intact.

02

Design and engineering

It became NIO's volume model, and in 2023 the company added something almost nobody else in the segment offered: a five-door estate version, the Touring, aimed squarely at European buyers who still want a load bay.

In production

The styling is deliberately plain by NIO standards, a smooth shape with a very low drag figure and few decorative details, and the cabin follows the flagship in using textile and open-pore finishes rather than gloss black plastic. Buyers get the same swap network and the same option to lease the pack rather than buy it, which is the company's most effective answer to the up-front cost of an electric car.

Legacy

Nothing here is new to the range. What matters is the price, because the compact segment is where the Chinese premium electric market is actually fought.

The facts that define it.
