Origins
The L90 of 2025 escalated Onvo's mission: a full-size three-row family SUV at prices that startled the segment — battery-rental options pushing entry costs below rivals a class smaller — leveraging Nio's swap network to strip battery capital from the sticker. Launch demand exceeded the L60's, briefly making the L90 the sector's headline story and vindicating the family-first product thesis. Manufacturing scale-up became the constraint, as ever. For Nio the L90's reception offered overdue evidence that its infrastructure bet could anchor volume economics; for the market it confirmed the era's rule — the Chinese family SUV, priced audaciously, remained the single most explosive product formula available. The formula is public knowledge now; executing it at Nio's quality bar was the differentiation.
