01

Origins

Saleen's core business was always the Mustang transformed, and the 302 series of the late 2000s carried the formula's modern form: Ford's S197 Mustang stripped and rebuilt with Saleen's supercharged variants of the 5-litre V8, chassis retuning, aero bodywork and serialised badging that made each car a numbered product rather than a tuned Ford. Outputs climbed through the range toward 700-plus horsepower in later Yellow Label cars, with warranties and dealer distribution keeping it civilised. It extended a lineage begun in 1984 that has made Saleen Mustangs a collector genre of their own, complete with registries and premium auction results. The 302s matter as continuity — proof the company that reached for the S7 never stopped mastering the car that funded the reach.
