Origins

The BC3 of 2007 was Brilliance's image play: a sleek coupé — Coupé by name in export plans — atop the group's sedan architecture, styled with Italian consultancy input to give the young marque a halo above its Junjie saloons. Sports-adjacent proportions met modest mechanicals; the car's mission was aspiration rather than acceleration. Limited production and the group's shifting priorities — the BMW partnership increasingly central — kept it rare. The BC3 documents a recurring pattern of the era: Chinese manufacturers commissioning European glamour to accelerate brand-building, discovering that halos require volume beneath them, and quietly returning to the sedans and SUVs that paid. Few survive; fewer were exported; the ambition photographed well.
