Origins
Scout Motors — Volkswagen's revival of International Harvester's beloved badge — revealed the Terra pickup in 2024 alongside the Traveler SUV: body-on-frame electric trucks with genuine off-road geometry, designed in America, to be built at a new South Carolina plant with production due in 2027. A late addition answered the market's anxiety: an extended-range version with a petrol generator, acknowledging that truck buyers tow beyond charging deserts. Reservations accumulated quickly on nostalgia with substance — the original Scout's cult never faded. Direct sales sparked dealer lawsuits, a fittingly American complication. The Terra's promise is precise: the anti-cybertruck — sincere, boxy, dirt-focused — wearing a name that predates the category it hopes to redefine.
