Origins

The Seres SF5 of 2019 began as another range-extended SUV from a Chongqing battery-and-minivan group's premium experiment — Silicon Valley-incubated SF Motors, renamed Seres — and became historic by retail accident: in 2021 it entered Huawei's flagship stores as the telecom giant's first automotive offering, selling through consumer-electronics channels to queues no conventional dealer could summon. The SF5 itself — competent, extended-range, unremarkable — mattered less than the experiment's success, which birthed the AITO brand and Huawei's deep automotive entanglement. As the proof-of-concept for tech-retail car selling in China, the SF5 punches far above its specification in industrial history: the modest SUV that showed phones and cars could share a counter. Collectors of industrial turning points should note the model code; the phenomenon it started needs no reminder.
