Origins

The VF 9 sits at the top of VinFast's range: a full-size three-row electric SUV with dual motors and all-wheel drive, styled by Pininfarina and built at the company's Haiphong plant, with North American production planned for later this decade.

Design and engineering

It was conceived for the American market, where large seven-seat SUVs are the most profitable segment and electric options were still thin when the car was announced. In practice it has sold in small numbers, arriving alongside the VF 8 during a difficult launch period for the brand and facing established competitors with far deeper dealer networks.

In production

As a piece of engineering it is straightforward for its class. As a statement, it is the largest and most expensive vehicle ever offered by a Vietnamese manufacturer.
