Brand History

The AC Story

AC is one of Britain's oldest car makers, with origins dating to 1901 and the partnership of engineer John Weller and businessman John Portwine, later trading as Auto Carriers. The company built light cars and sports models for decades, but its defining moment came when the AC Ace roadster was fitted with American V8 power by Carroll Shelby in 1962, creating the legendary Shelby Cobra. AC has passed through numerous owners while keeping the Cobra shape at the heart of its identity.
