Brand History
The MAN Story
MAN's name comes from Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg, an engineering group whose Augsburg works hosted Rudolf Diesel's development of the diesel engine in the 1890s. MAN began building trucks in 1915 and became one of Europe's leading commercial vehicle makers; its lion badge was inherited from Büssing, which MAN absorbed in 1971. The truck and bus business is now part of the Traton Group within Volkswagen.
