Brand History

The Roewe Story

Roewe was created in 2006 by SAIC Motor after it acquired the intellectual property of Britain's collapsed MG Rover Group but not the Rover name itself, which required inventing a new marque. Its first model, the Roewe 750, was developed from the Rover 75, and the brand went on to become one of SAIC's principal domestic passenger car lines. Roewe later emphasized hybrid and electric models, including the early internet-connected RX5 SUV developed with Alibaba.
