Origins
The Clever of 2020 was Roewe's entry in the micro-EV wave Wuling's Mini EV had detonated: a two-door city electric with cheerful styling and pricing near the segment's accessible floor, aimed at urban commuters and the young buyers making tiny EVs China's volume phenomenon. SAIC's scale made participation straightforward; differentiation in the carnival was harder, and the Clever held a modest share of an enormous pie. The model documents the moment electrification's real mass adoption arrived from below — not premium saloons but sub-city-car runabouts — and every major group's obligatory scramble to field one, lest the future's entry point belong entirely to Liuzhou. The future's entry point, it turned out, seated two and parked anywhere.
