Brand History

The UD Story

UD Trucks was founded in 1935 as Nihon Diesel Industries and was long known as Nissan Diesel, becoming one of Japan's four major heavy truck manufacturers. The UD name originally referred to its 'Uniflow Diesel' two-stroke engine and was later recast as 'Ultimate Dependability.' Volvo acquired the company from Nissan in 2007, and in 2021 it was sold to Isuzu Motors.
