Origins
The Quon of 2004 modernised UD's heavy-duty line: a flagship tractor and rigid family with contemporary cab, electronics and the emissions engineering Japan's standards demanded, competing at the top of the domestic market and across export territories. Under Volvo Group ownership the Quon absorbed European technology integration — later Escot automated transmissions and connectivity — keeping the century-old UD name competitive in the region's premium truck tier. It remains the badge's standard-bearer: proof that Japan's fourth truck maker, through every ownership era, kept building heavies the market took seriously. A century-old badge kept credible through three owners is its own engineering achievement. The Escot transmission's smoothness became the segment's quiet benchmark, imitated more than credited.
