Clapton has been a Ferrari customer for more than fifty years, and his taste has stayed remarkably fixed: front-engined and mid-engined twelve-cylinder cars, bought to drive. Enough of them have passed through auction with his name on the history file to make the collection a matter of record rather than rumour. In 2012 Ferrari built him one that had never existed before — the SP12 EC, made under the Special Projects programme and styled after the 512 BB he has owned three of.
