Origins

By 2014 Acura was selling two mid-size sedans that overlapped uncomfortably: the larger TL and the European-derived TSX. The TLX replaced both, taking the TL's presence and the TSX's tidier dimensions, with four-cylinder and V6 engines, front-wheel drive or Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, and a good deal of chassis technology including rear-wheel steering on some versions.

Design and engineering

The second generation of 2020 was the more convincing car, built on a stiffer platform with double-wishbone front suspension and a longer bonnet, and topped by the return of the Type S badge with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 and standard SH-AWD.

In production

It was well made and pleasant to drive, but the market had moved to crossovers and buyers did not come back. Production ended in July 2025 with no direct replacement, closing out Acura's history of conventional saloons.
