The Aion Y is a compact crossover with a deliberately upright, boxy body, drawn by Mehtap Topcu and built in Guangzhou since 2021, with production later added at Rayong in Thailand. It uses a single front motor driving the front wheels, and replaced the Trumpchi GE3 in GAC's line-up.

The shape is the point. By keeping the roof high and the overhangs short, GAC extracted an unusually large cabin from a small footprint, which made the car attractive both to private buyers wanting space for the money and to ride-hailing fleets wanting a durable, roomy electric vehicle with low running costs. A rebadged version was sold as the Hycan Z03 until 2025.
