Origins

The UT is Aion's compact hatchback, a five-door on a front-motor, front-wheel-drive layout that entered production in February 2025. Where the brand's earlier cars were shaped by the Chinese market alone, this one was planned for export from the start.

Design and engineering

That shows in the assembly list. Alongside Guangzhou, the UT is put together at Purwakarta in Indonesia, at Rayong in Thailand and - most tellingly - by Magna Steyr in Graz, the Austrian contract manufacturer that has built cars for Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes. Assembling in Europe sidesteps the tariffs applied to Chinese-built electric vehicles and shortens the route into European showrooms.

In production

As a car it is conventional: a small, well-equipped hatchback pitched at the price-sensitive end of the market. Its interest lies in how it is being sold rather than how it is engineered.
