Origins

The Enviro200EV of 2015 was Alexander Dennis's early move on battery buses: the standard British midibus re-engineered around electric drive in partnership with BYD, whose iron-phosphate packs and drivetrain met ADL's bodywork and operator relationships. London's clean-air politics supplied the launch customers; depot charging and route modelling supplied the learning curve. The combination — Chinese cells, Scottish coachwork — became the template that electrified much of Britain's single-deck fleet years before rivals scaled. As diesel's replacement arrived route by route, the Enviro200EV's fleets accumulated the millions of quiet miles that turned scepticism into procurement policy. The transition's real vehicle was never a headline product; it was this bus, arriving every eight minutes.
