Besturn B70 II China

01

Origins

The Besturn B70 of 2006 launched FAW's own-brand ambitions on pragmatic foundations: the Mazda6 platform from the group's joint venture, restyled and repriced as a domestic executive saloon — proven dynamics wearing a Chinese badge at a meaningful discount. The formula served the state giant's indigenous-brand obligations while de-risking the engineering. Sales established Besturn (later Bestune) as a credible mid-market presence through the decade. The B70's borrowed-bones approach defined a whole era of SOE brand-building — legitimacy leased from partners while domestic capability matured — and FAW's later, genuinely in-house Bestune generations stand on the market position this careful hybrid first secured. Borrowed bones, honestly acknowledged, built more brands in China than originality ever announced.
