Origins
Drew Bowler's Derbyshire firm spent the 1990s making Land Rovers do the impossible, and the Wildcat of 1998 formalised the craft: a spaceframe-reinforced, Defender-derived off-road racer with Rover V8 power, long-travel suspension and construction meant for the punishment of international rally raids including Dakar-style events. It became British off-road competition's definitive weapon and gathered a public following through a Top Gear appearance that introduced millions to the sight of a Land Rover silhouette catching air. Built in small hand-crafted numbers, Wildcats established the company that Jaguar Land Rover itself would eventually buy in 2019 — the tuner absorbed by the mothership. The Wildcat remains the founding text: proof that Solihull's farm tool contained a desert racer, waiting for Derbyshire to release it.
