Origins

The Xuandu of 2021 gave Kaiyi a conventional compact saloon: Chery-derived underpinnings, modest turbo power and equipment calibrated to undercut established domestic rivals in the family-sedan class that still anchors inland Chinese demand. The brand's Yibin base — with municipal investment and battery-city ambitions around it — positioned Kaiyi as a regional champion feeding provincial dealer networks. The Xuandu asked no design questions and answered the only one its buyers posed: how much car, how little money. In the record it stands for the saloon segment's long tail — the affordable three-box that persists beneath the headlines, sustaining brands the export markets never meet. In segments like this, survival is the only review that counts, and the Xuandu kept passing it.
