Lynk & Co 05+ 001 China

01

Origins

The 05 arrived in 2020 as a coupe-styled crossover sitting above the 01 in Lynk and Co's Chinese range, built at Geely's CMA plant at Luqiao on the same platform that carries the rest of the family and the Volvo XC40. Peter Horbury handled the design, taking the brand's split lighting arrangement and applying it to a longer, lower body with a sloping roofline.

02

Design and engineering

Engines are a 2.0-litre turbocharged four from the Volvo-derived Drive-E family, or a plug-in hybrid combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged three with an electric motor, through automatic or dual-clutch transmissions. A sportier version tuned with input from the group's racing operation was offered in China.

It is a straightforward product in a crowded part of the Chinese market, and it sells on the same argument as the rest of the range: European-developed engineering and safety structure at a price the European brands cannot match.
