Origins

The 03 is the saloon in the Lynk and Co range, launched in 2018 on the same CMA platform as the 01 SUV and the Volvo XC40, with turbocharged three and four-cylinder engines driving the front wheels or, in higher specifications, all four.

Design and engineering

What gives it a story beyond its segment is the 03+, a hotter version with the 2.0-litre turbocharged four and a chassis worked over by Cyan Racing, the Swedish outfit formerly known as Polestar Racing that had built Volvo's touring cars for years. Cyan took a racing version of the 03 into the World Touring Car Cup and won the manufacturers' championship with it, in a series contested by established European names, which is not a result anybody had penciled in for a two-year-old Chinese brand.

In production

That competition record gave Lynk and Co something few new marques can buy, and the 03+ became a genuine enthusiast car in China rather than a marketing exercise. The standard car remains a well-equipped compact saloon competing on equipment and price.
