Origins

Don Panoz's Esperante of 2000 was the road-car expression of an American racing project: built in Georgia alongside the front-engined Le Mans prototypes that made the family name famous, it wrapped an aluminium chassis and body around Ford's 4.6-litre Mustang V8, offering exotic construction with drive-anywhere ease. The GTLM turbo versions added serious pace, and the racing Esperante GTLM delivered the marque's proudest result — class victory at Le Mans in 2006, an extraordinary feat for a boutique constructor. Road-car production stayed intentionally small through the 2000s, hand-built for buyers who valued the story. The Esperante remains the definitive Panoz: American materials science and racing craft in a package that never pretended to be from anywhere but the Deep South.
