Origins
Soueast — the Fujian joint venture building Mitsubishis for China — launched the V5 Lingzhi in 2012 as its own-brand assertion: Lancer-derived underpinnings beneath original styling, priced for the family mainstream with the partner's engineering as silent warranty. The own-badge strategy served the era's policy expectations and the company's need for identity beyond contract assembly. Sales held modest and steady through the decade. The V5 documents the joint-venture satellite pattern — Mitsubishi's Chinese outpost cultivating a domestic face — and its ceiling: without unique technology or scale, such brands lived in the gaps the giants ignored, which China's consolidating market progressively closed. The gaps closed on schedule; the V5 had simply rented one while it lasted.
