Origins
The DX5 of 2019 refreshed Soueast's core crossover offer: updated styling, turbo power and connectivity equipment targeting the value-SUV mainstream that had briefly made the brand relevant. It arrived as China's market contracted for the first time in decades — a downturn that culled precisely the second-tier badges Soueast exemplified. Mitsubishi's deepening China struggles removed the venture's anchor thereafter; restructuring followed, with the marque's assets redirected toward new-energy contract work. The DX5 thus closes the brand's conventional story — a decent product from a structure whose time had expired, released into the consolidation that had been arriving, visibly, for five years. Consolidation keeps no calendar, but everyone had seen this date approaching.
