Origins

The DX7 Bolang of 2015 was Soueast's bid for the SUV boom: a compact crossover styled by Pininfarina — the Italian consultancy's Chinese client list then expanding rapidly — with turbo options and value pricing beneath the segment's establishment. The design investment showed and briefly sold; the DX7 gave the small Fujian brand its most visible product and export ambitions. Competition compounded faster than the follow-through, as everywhere in the segment. The DX7's role in the record is representative: the mid-2010s moment when every Chinese manufacturer, however small, could commission world-class styling and contest the crossover gold rush — entry tickets Italy was pleased to print. The styling outlived the strategy, as commissioned styling tends to.
