Origins
Higer of Suzhou — among China's big-three bus makers — built the H5C from 2004 as its light-bus backbone: a Toyota Coaster-class minicoach for the airport shuttles, tour operators and institutional fleets that constitute Asia's vast midi market. Export success followed across the developing world, the H5C's value-and-durability mix suiting operators from Southeast Asia to Africa. The type's long production run and derivatives made it one of Higer's signature volumes alongside the touring coaches. Unremarkable by design, the H5C represents the Chinese bus industry's real conquest: not headline electric contracts first, but the world's daily shuttle work, absorbed route by route. Nobody photographs the airport shuttle; everybody rides it. Twenty years of airport aprons and hotel forecourts across four continents is the model's actual biography.
