Origins

By 2023 XPeng needed a volume seller more than it needed another flagship, and the G6 was built to be one. It is a mid-size coupe SUV, styled by Emanuel Derta, offered with a rear motor or dual motors, and it introduced the company's SEPA 2.0 architecture — most notably a cell-to-body battery pack, where the cells are integrated directly into the floor structure rather than housed in a separate case bolted underneath.

Design and engineering

That saves weight and height, and it sits alongside the 800-volt system inherited from the G9, which gives the G6 charging speeds that most rivals in its price bracket could not match. XPeng priced it aggressively against the Tesla Model Y, the car it was openly benchmarked against, and it became the company's best-selling model.

In production

It is also XPeng's most international product. Assembly runs in Guangzhou for China, at Magna Steyr in Graz for Europe, and at partner plants in Indonesia and Malaysia for Southeast Asia — a spread that reflects both tariff pressure and genuine export ambition.
