Brand History
The Rover Story
Rover began in 1878 as a Coventry bicycle firm led by John Kemp Starley, whose 1885 Rover safety bicycle set the template for the modern bicycle, and the company built its first cars in 1904. It created the Land Rover in 1948 and produced influential executive cars such as the P5, P6, and SD1, becoming one of Britain's most storied marques. After passing through British Leyland, British Aerospace, and BMW ownership, the brand ended with the collapse of MG Rover in 2005.
